December 2010 From the SEA Director

The holiday season is here.  As an artist this provides many opportunities to market yourself in some unique ways.  Use your creative talents to let other people know what you do.

You may have already given your artwork as gifts to friends and family.  Several of my most cherished gifts are pieces of art made by members of my family and I don't mean just the crafts by my kids but the oil painting by my sister, the beautiful quilts lovingly hand-stitched by my mother-in-law, and a framed greeting card my Grandmother made many years ago.

This year I challenge you to think beyond this normal scope of gift giving and give a piece of your art to someone different.  For those in college, perhaps a professor or even the College President.  For others it could be a boss, co-worker, or other business acquaintance.

The idea is to show someone you are appreciative of the support they have provided and also let them see what you do.  Who knows what it could lead to in the future?
